Grocery Prices and Shopping in Cancun, Mexico 2025
MEXICO TRAVEL
Hi everyone, it's Anastasiia!
This February of 2025 I visited Mexico, the beautiful city of Cancun. Not only I've been on amazing beaches with turquoise water, but also took a walk around the downtown and visited some big popular supermarkets and small grocery stores. In today's video I want to show you the current prices on February of 2025 and see what's for sale.
Before we start shopping I want to let you know that even though that price tag having a dollar sign, it's not US Dollars — it's Mexican pesos. Also, the weight measured not in pounds but in kilogram, so one kilo has about 2 lb in it. You're welcome to pause the video to see prices a little bit closer and remember that $1 is about 20 Mexican pesos.
And right now let's go!
The Bakery Section
I noticed that the first section of the store upon entrance is a bakery. They have huge amount of all kind of buns and pies and even the sweet tacos. The main thing is it smells awesome — it definitely makes you hungry whenever you enter the store.
The Meat and Seafood Section
Let's move to the meat section. I noticed that in Mexico there's plenty of meat, and in the restaurant almost everything they have is pure meat but in different variations.
There is also a choice of seafood — from fish to shrimp. I've seen little crabs, looks like a blue crab here in Alabama.
Also, I looked at the prices for eggs. As I know, right now here in US eggs are pretty expensive, and so in Mexico there are different prices for different cut of eggs, and in supermarket it was more expensive comparing to little store.
As I noticed, it's pretty common for the grocery store to have a deli section with the seating area where you can have a lunch or breakfast. So in Mexico, in big supermarkets, they also got the seating area and there were plenty of people having their little lunch break.
Fruits and Vegetables
Let's move to the fruit and vegetables area. Mexico has a big choice of fruits. I notice a lot of apples right now, maybe it's the season. Also they have big papaya and a lot of bananas of different kinds.
My favorite fruit is mango, and there was plenty of mangoes there. Also I like guava and sapote, which I first tried while living in Costa Rica, and here in Mexico they got it under the other name Mamey — it was pretty interesting.
The other interesting vegetable was cactus leaves — they called nopales — and they obviously cleaned up from all the spikes, and you can buy them just like this or bagged already cut. It's pretty tasty, I tried it in the restaurant.
Also what can amaze you — it's pepper. There's plenty of different kind of pepper, fresh and also dried, because I know Mexicans, they do add pepper everywhere and everything is a little bit picante.
Upstairs in the Supermarket
One of the big supermarkets that I visited also had a second floor where they had non-food items. So it was a lot of clothing and TVs — you can even buy a vehicle over there.
I noticed that many of the items made in Mexico, so there's a lot of local manufacturers. And I bought one of the T-shirt as a souvenir.
I found one of the washing machine that is typical for Latin countries. I lived in Costa Rica, and they had the same design of washing machine there.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, there's a lot of goods in Mexican stores, specifically in Cancun City. And to summarize my experience about prices, I believe that is not that cheap, and some of the food I believe even cheaper in US. So it makes me wonder if all the goods they have in the store are affordable for local people.
Anyway, I hope you like this video, and if you do, subscribe for more. Thanks for watching!
