Hi everyone! In our city, for almost a month now, everything around has been filled with the festive and spooky atmosphere of Halloween.

This ancient holiday, also known as All Hallows’ Eve, is celebrated on the night of October 31 to November 1 and is most popular in the United States and Canada.

According to the ancient Celtic belief, on this night the worlds of the living and the dead open their doors, and creatures from the other side make their way to Earth. People dress up as all sorts of monsters and ghosts so that the evil spirits won’t notice them.

How People Decorate for Halloween

By this day, Catholics and everyone who wishes to join the celebration decorate their homes with ghosts, cobwebs, skeletons, and even place tombstones near their doors — so that evil spirits would think it’s not a house, but a crypt.

The main symbol of Halloween is, of course, the pumpkin lantern, which protects from evil forces. It even has a name — Jack. These “Jacks” are placed at entrances, on windowsills, and inside homes.

Stores and offices also decorate their spaces with all kinds of spooky items.

For example, in the store where I work, everything is covered in cobwebs — spiders, pumpkins, skeletons everywhere.

Even the hospital set up a small display with Halloween symbols. And some people even decorate their cars!

Store shelves are absolutely overflowing with themed holiday goods. Almost every supermarket has a special Halloween section, and they say that in the U.S., Halloween sales come in second place after Christmas.

Costumes, Monsters, and Candy

And the most exciting part — there are just so many costumes for every taste!

You can dress up not only as something scary, but also as beautiful fairies, cartoon characters, or movie stars. Costumes are available for both kids and adults.

There are even entire stores dedicated to the holiday, full of interactive decorations for the home.

You can also find terrifying monster installations that could seriously scare anyone! To make them move, you just have to step on a button on the floor — right next to the monster.

The fun part is that all these spooky decorations are for sale, so you can set them up at home if you’d like!

And of course, Halloween is the holiday when the most candy is sold. That’s because of the famous tradition — “Trick or Treat.”

Children dress up as little monsters and go from house to house, scaring adults — and the adults, in turn, “buy off” the tiny ghosts with sweets.

They say Halloween has its own “capitals” — New York and Los Angeles, where the most colorful and spectacular parades take place.

But here in Seattle, we’ll have a cool Halloween party too!

So, that’s all for today!
