Historic Winter Snowfall in South Alabama
USA TRAVEL
Hi, it’s Anastasiia! In today’s video I want to show you the historic snowfall we had here in South Alabama. It was definitely unexpected, and even though the forecast was predicting snow accumulation here in the area, people still didn’t believe that we ever can get more than one inch of snow.
But on January 21st of 2025, we got a really massive snowfall — it was like a winter wonderland, really beautiful! Usually here in South Alabama we get some rainfall during the winter, but I’ve never seen snow before, so it was really unexpected to get so much.
The snowfall started in the morning around 11:00 a.m., and here in my city it stopped around 9:00 p.m., so it was like 10 hours of non-stop snow. I measured it at the end of the day with my ruler, and it showed around 5 inches of snow — and I’ve seen some Facebook publications reporting up to 9 inches and even more!
I want to say how beautiful it is when everything is covered in snow. It was so strange to see the white landscape right behind the window — just an unforgettable experience. It was a lot of fun! I’ve been playing with the snow, trying to make some snowballs and a snowman. Also, I’ve been playing with my dog — I think Johnny did like to play in the snow and just run around. It was so fun!
I don’t really have much winter clothing, so I just used some yard-work gloves and my slightly warm sneakers that I had. The jacket — I don’t think it’s for snow, but it still worked!
Also, I do want to add that it was really freezing, and the temperature here dropped to around 16°F at night — it was really cold! The Arctic weather just came all the way down to the Gulf Coast, and I think I’ll never forget it.
The next morning after the snowfall, it was so beautiful. The sun was shining, and all the snow around was sparkling. It was so peaceful and calm — it felt like real winter. After the sun came out, all the snow started melting. It did remind me of springtime — even though it was really nice, beautiful, and unforgettable, I’m so glad it was only a one-day experience.
Because I’m really more into warm weather — the sun shining or just a little bit of rain will be good — but the snow is something special, something we rarely get here in the South.
I was happy to share with you the South Winter Wonderland!
